What first inspired me to get into this subject was my own passion for the mysteries of life when I was a child. And also my interest was communication, the idea that humanity may well have been in touch with otherworldly or supernatural forces. I work with psychics. I see psychic information come out and often it's very, very accurate and it certainly inspires me. And I wondered whether our ancestors also had similar forms of communication with these entities that existed in other realms. I mean, that was my motivation. And my interest basically is in why things were done, whetherI mean, that was my motivation. (00:02:22)

I think my first real interests came about through personal experiences in this field. I mean, for instance, as far back, I think it was 1977, I went to a place called Warminster in southwest England where UFO sightings had appeared for a great many years. And I was there one night, arrived about 3, 3.30 in the morning, I was on a farmer's track and this intensely bright bluey white ball of light came out of a thick bank of fog and crossed the road, which I'd just come along with myself with three other people in the car. And we witnessed this, this, this light. And yet the strange thing about it is that car. (00:03:38)
And we witnessed this, this, this light. And yet the strange thing about it is that as soon as we saw it, as soon as it disappeared, we didn't go investigate, which we should have done. I was a UFO investigator and so was my colleague there. But we all just fell asleep. All four people in the car just fell asleep, which is really curious and very weird. (00:03:55)
And the next thing we knew, we woke up in the morning and, you know, the first thing we said was, what the hell happened last night? And of course, at that point, we went to investigate and made sure that there was absolutely no mundane explanation for this. And there wasn't at all. So obviously we concluded that we'd seen some kind of mysterious light, earth at all. (00:04:17)

And I think that really that that had a profound interest, an effect on me because it was thereafter that I found myself in contact with what essentially was Great Britain's first ever UFO abductees. And essentially what happened is that they were travelling along a road late one night on a very short journey, which they knew how long it would take, which was about 20 minutes. And they saw this blue oval light over the car and take, which was about 20 minutes. (00:05:16)
And they saw this blue oval light over the car and they noted that and then carried on their journey. And then the next thing they found is that the car headlights failed, the engine failed and they could not no longer hear the tyres actually going over the road. The radio started smoking. They had to pull out the wires to that. You know, it's all happened very quickly. And they passed around a bend wires to that. (00:05:37)
You know, it's all happened very quickly. And they passed around a bend and found a luminous bank of green mist right across the road in front of them, like a fog or a gas or something which was just otherworldly. And they went into this and felt very nauseous. (00:05:52)
And the next thing they know, they were three quarters of a mile, a kilometre or so further on from the same location. And after checking that everybody was OK, they drove home and really didn't talk about the subject for a while. But they kept having very strange dreams, the parents about being in very bright lit rooms on sort of what appeared to be like hospital operating tables and these strange beings which they described as gnomes, which is a type of fairy or little people that seem to be examining them. And they lived with is a type of fairy or little people that seem to be examining them. (00:06:32)
And they lived with this for a while and eventually they realised that they would just have to do something about it and tell somebody. They tried to ignore it. And that's how I was put in touch with them. And hypnosis revealed an on-board experience. And I wrote all this up for a series of articles for the magazine Flying Saucer. And it was great. But this was where series of articles for the magazine Flying Saucer. (00:06:54)
And it was great. But this was where it really began for me because I became really good friends with these people. And I would spend the Friday night around there and we would do everything from meditations to hypnosis to what you call sort of ghost watching, watching for paranormal phenomena. And on a number of occasions weird things happened, including poltergeist activity when I was staying around there on my own in their front room. And also at one point I actually saw an entity. I woke there on my own in their front room. (00:07:29)
And also at one point I actually saw an entity. I woke up just as it got light and the door went behind me. And the man of the house, John, was on the floor in a sleeping bag and so was my other colleague. And his wife was asleep and she's quite a small lady. And yet this really tall figure was standing behind me. (00:07:49)
I just looked and saw it. And I wondered what it was, at which point my nose started filling up with this really strange smell which smelled like rotten eggs. And it was really strange nauseous smell. And at which point I just fell asleep again. And one of these situations like the next thing you know you wake up in the morning and you think what the hell happened last night? It's the same thing. And it was John really that started to get happened last night? It's the same thing. (00:08:21)
And it was John really that started to get me into the ancient mysteries because he found that he could see energies around people after this experience. He could see people's aura. He could go to prehistoric sites like stone circles and see energies flowing in and out of them around the stones and things like this accumulating, dissipating. And he participated actively in a project known as the Dragon this accumulating, dissipating. (00:08:50)
And he participated actively in a project known as the Dragon Project on behalf of the Lay Hunter magazine where he gave his sort of like intuitive insights into one particular stone circle called the Rollerite Stones. And it was at this time really that with John and his family and a couple of other friends that we really started visiting prehistoric sites for the first time including the Great Stone Circle of Avebury in south east sorry southwest England, Glastonbury, the Rollerite Stones and things like this. And that really was my point of entry into the subject which was a few years after having read Eric von Daniken. And I started reading the works of earth mystery researchers like John Michel, Paul Devereux, Paul Screeton and various other people like this who were like pioneers in this lay hunting world. You know the idea that ancient sites are interconnected through some kind of network or grid which is both visible on the landscape as like lines of sight but also something that dowsers can pick up using you know sort of angle rods and you know the hazel twig markers and whatever. So that's really how I got into the subject and you know the hazel twig markers and whatever. (00:10:16)
So that's really how I got into the subject and I started attending conferences which were known as the Lay Hunters Moot which took place in various places in the UK. And I like this idea I like this idea of you know of having these you know yearly gatherings of people of like mind. So I started something which I originally called the psychic questing conference which eventually just became the questing conference which was arguably one of the most successful conferences that's ever occurred you know year on an annual basis in the UK. And I still run a form of that ever occurred you know year on an annual basis in the UK. (00:10:54)
And I still run a form of that today with my colleague Hugh Newman which is known as Origins which last year we had Graham Hancock and Robert Bouvard. This year we have Robert Temple and Brian Forrester and various other great speakers. So the tradition continues really. So I started to look into the idea of the origins of angels. In ancient texts they're referred to as the Watchers the idea of the origins of angels. (00:11:21)
In ancient texts they're referred to as the Watchers and the Watchers would seem to have been heavenly angels but they seem to have quite corporeal or physical bodies as well. They're described very specifically as extremely tall with white or pale skin white hair which is long and in some cases frizzy. And they seem to have very penetrating eyes which are described as like the sun you know shining like the sun or whatever. And that they also are described as having extremely long faces visages like sun or whatever. (00:12:04)
And that they also are described as having extremely long faces visages like vipers in one particular reference which seems to be quite specific to you know a particular population or something like that. And this intrigued me. And the other thing was is that there was descriptions of accounts of women who have children that are said to resemble the Watchers and the angels to the point that their husband sort of turned to them and say you know this child does not look like mine. You know have you been sleeping with one of you know this child does not look like mine. (00:12:41)
You know have you been sleeping with one of the Watchers which intrigued me again because it seemed very much as if you're describing you know a human population here. And so I looked into this further particularly into the origins of the Garden of Eden and realized that it was a physical locality with the best evidence pointing towards it being somewhere in the area of what is today eastern Anatolia Turkey which is where the rivers of paradise come together. Two of those are very easily Turkey which is where the rivers of paradise come together. (00:13:16)
Two of those are very easily identified as the Euphrates and the Tigris and the other two. You know there's certain disputes over them but they both seem to also rise in the area of eastern Anatolia. So that gives us a sort of rough area of Eden and indeed a number of ancient maps that I've looked at also seem to point towards Eden being in this locality. So Eden was said to looked at also seem to point towards Eden being in this locality. (00:13:45)
So Eden was said to be synonymous with both paradise i.e. the terrestrial paradise but also heaven itself somewhere which we would normally associate with somewhere above the clouds. And it said that this is where the angels inhabited and that they guarded the Garden of Righteousness you know the garden in which Adam and Eve had supposedly grown up. And therefore we had a physical locality for these people. And coinciding with this is the fact that had a physical locality for these people. (00:14:18)
And coinciding with this is the fact that this same region is known as the cradle of civilization. A great number of firsts occurred for humankind here. Everything from the origins of agriculture to the first animal husbandry to the first settled communities the first structured buildings the first metal work even the first wine and the first beer all hailed from this area. So it seemed as if even the first wine and the first beer all hailed from this area. (00:14:48)
So it seemed as if that there were a number of innovations that took place in this cradle of civilization which roughly corresponds to the Near East or the political land of Kurdistan which embraces as I said Eastern Anatolia North Northern Syria Northern Iraq and Western Iran and obviously Armenia which is just to the north of here. This was the seemingly the area known as the Armenia which is just to the north of here. (00:15:20)
This was the seemingly the area known as the cradle of civilization and also the Garden of Eden. And so obviously I wondered whether these watchers if they were real actually lived in this region. Well it seemed very likely that if they were physical then they were behind these innovations. And this seems to be the case because in the Book of Enoch the watchers are described as giving humanity the arts and sciences of heaven which was seemingly a crime that they should not have done this. These rebel watchers as it were which supposedly descended in among mortal done this. (00:16:04)
These rebel watchers as it were which supposedly descended in among mortal kind and not only revealed these secrets but also took mortal wives who gave birth to giant offspring referred to as the Nephilim generally. So another reason to suggest that they had some kind of corporeal existence. So I began to realize as far back as the mid 1990s that the watchers may well have been a metaphor for the originators of civilization in the Near East. But there was more because there was descriptions of the watchers wearing cloaks Near East. (00:16:40)
But there was more because there was descriptions of the watchers wearing cloaks of feather or very dark iridescent coats and cloaks that seemed to be corresponding to the feathers of birds and things like this. So I wonder whether they were shaman. And what's interesting is that one of the most important cults of ritual amongst the early Neolithic is that of the bird shaman. It most particularly associated with the bird known Neolithic is that of the bird shaman. (00:17:12)
It most particularly associated with the bird known as the vulture and the vulture was very important in prehistoric societies because it was very often used to pick clean the flesh of bodies in the process known as excarnation where the flesh would be removed by placing the dead bodies in what they called excarnation platforms which were generally away from a community and raised up quite high so that the birds would come down and take away the flesh and then afterwards the remaining bones would be collected up and interred in what's known as a disarticulated or a disarticulated burial or a secondary burial. And because the bird became so associated with the dead burial or a secondary burial. (00:18:00)
And because the bird became so associated with the dead body and the disappearance of the dead body it was also seen to carry the soul into the next world. And in other words that the soul either took the form of the bird or the bird itself accompanied the soul by taking it under its wings and there are images at places like the Neolithic city of Çatalhöyük in southern central Turkey which date to around 7000 BC that seem to show just this. But what's more important is that this soul was seen to carry that seem to show just this. (00:18:35)
But what's more important is that this soul was seen to carry the soul into the next world and that's what we know as the soul of the vulture. (00:18:42)
The soul was seen therefore not only to take the form of a bird but could obviously travel from the material existence into the other world and back again for reincarnation or incarnation in its own right. And therefore the shaman whose duty it was to enter into the other world to get otherworldly information to encounter and deal with supernatural forces possibly to heal people and various other duties that they had would see themselves as having to take that same form of a bird. And to do this they would wear the cloaks of the particular to take that same form of a bird. (00:19:30)
And to do this they would wear the cloaks of the particular birds. Obviously there are animals involved as well that they would also take the guise of. But to get into the mindset of the birds they would wear the paraphernalia of that particular avian creature and obviously the vulture was one of them. I mean obviously in other parts of the world there were different birds that represented the carriers of the soul. I mean for instance in a lot of Europe and central and eastern Asia the familiar soul. (00:20:01)
I mean for instance in a lot of Europe and central and eastern Asia the familiar soul birds or psychopomps is a word that's used in Greek which means soul carriers are the swan for instance the goose the crane and the stork. All of these are substitutes if you like for the vulture which would seem to have been very important in the area of the Near East or Southwest Asia. And I think that this is this was significant because the Near East or Southwest Asia. (00:20:28)
And I think that this is this was significant because it was the origins of the association of the soul with a bird really. And so therefore I began to realize that the watchers were bird shaman in particular vulture shaman and actually even got an artist to create an image showing one of these vulture shaman who obviously doubled up therefore as a watcher. So for the first time we had a true image obviously doubled up therefore as a watcher. (00:20:56)
So for the first time we had a true image in my opinion of what a watcher from the Book of Enoch looked like. And all of these ideas were eventually brought out in a work of mine called From the Ashes of Angels that appeared in 1996. And that was very well received. I mean it had a testimonial from Graham Hancock who I already knew by that time. And the book did very very well worldwide and really who I already knew by that time. (00:21:25)
And the book did very very well worldwide and really established me as a you know as an author and a historical writer. And that's it really. I suppose that's how it all began. And from that point onwards we've gone on to do many great things.
