On April 5, 1943 at 9:50 AM, aviation writer and flight instructor Gerry Casey, along with a student pilot in a BT-13A trainer, observed a strange "plane" over Long Beach, California. The craft was brought to Casey's attention when a "peculiar flash" toward the east caught his eye; as Casey turned to look, he observed the craft entering a dive in the direction of their aircraft. Casey could see no windows, propellers, or any kind of visible propulsion mechanism. He described it as elliptical in shape, with a rounded "hump" toward the center on both top and bottom.

It certainly has the appearance of maybe some of the swept wing type stealth aircraft that we recognize today as seen in profile, but at very least superficially it also resembles a classic flying saucer, does it not? 1943 over California.
