Trying to introduce Peter Davenport is a very personal experience for me. So I have to tell you a brief story before I give you such details as what many of you know, that he has been the director of the National UFO Reporting Center since 1994. That is a very simple statement. There's so much more to it, at least for me. I will tell you a quick story. (0:00:29)

In about 1975, I was a newly minted military police investigator at Fort Lewis. I was up chatting with the desk sergeant one night in the MP station, and I saw that he had a big piece of plexiglass, and underneath it were all these business cards. And I'm just kind of looking down to see what he's got, and I see this business card that says National UFO Reporting Center, 206-722-3000, same phone number. (0:00:59)

I said, Sarge, what's that? He looks at me very matter-of-fact, and he says, that's where we report UFOs. And I thought, hmm, this is a military police station. I filed that away in my brain. Years later, flashing forward, 1986, I at that point had been with the Aberdeen Police Department for about six or seven years, and that was the year that the JAL airline pilot Kenji Taroshi made national headlines, because while flying his cargo liner into Anchorage, Alaska, they saw a floating city in the sky. Does this sound familiar? Yes. Another one of the most exciting cases, they didn't have mass numbers of witnesses like what we're studying here, but still a really good case which was initially confirmed by the FAA on radar, then they retracted because of the public interest, and I believe now in Leslie Keen's book it's been revealed that years later, they've kind of gone back the other way. Any event, I decided to do something about it, so I called the phone number. It was answered by a gentleman named Robert Gribble, who was Peter Davenport's predecessor. That gentleman was a retired Seattle firefighter who cared so much about this subject that out of his own pocket he made it happen. That meant he typed reports, answered phones, etc. He was a tireless worker. (0:02:35)

He couldn't have passed that torch on to anyone more dedicated than Peter Davenport. Absolutely, you're totally right. I joined MUFON as a result of my phone call there because Robert Gribble, I told him I wanted to help and I wanted to get off the sidelines. He said, have you ever heard of MUFON? And I will tell you quite frankly, there are things about MUFON that I don't agree with and that I don't particularly like, but I have met many wonderful people because of MUFON and I have done my utmost to investigate hundreds and hundreds of cases over the years. Along the way I started attending meetings in Seattle. I met Peter Davenport and I saw that behind the scenes, Larry and Marilyn Childs were the directors. There was one man who was always supporting their efforts, who always went the extra mile to set things up, make sure there was a place to meet, make sure that this thing actually happened. And I guess that's how I perceive Peter Davenport. He is someone who goes the distance. He has been rock solid. He doesn't deliberately draw attention to himself or seek glory or reward, but he stays the course. He's been a model for me through the years. And so I guess I've gone from apprentice to novice to hopefully a master ufologist partially because of my association with and friendship with Peter Davenport. So now I will give you the details of his biography. (0:04:25)

Davenport reports UFO sighting cases regularly on the Jeff Rents radio show and presents lectures on specific cases, most notably the Phoenix Lights sighting. In addition to being the director of the National UFO Reporting Center, Davenport has served as the director of investigations for the Washington chapter of the Mutual UFO Network. He has also been a witness to several anomalous events, possibly UFO related, including a dramatic sighting over Baja California in February of 1990 and several nighttime sightings over Washington state during 1992. Peter Davenport received his undergraduate education at Stanford University in California, where he earned bachelor's degrees in Russian and biology, as well as a translator's certificate in Russian translation. His graduate education was completed at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he earned a master's degree in the genetics and biochemistry of fish from the College of Fisheries, as well as an MBA degree in finance and international business from the Graduate School of Business. He has worked as a college instructor, a commercial fisherman, a Russian translator in the Soviet Union, a fisheries observer aboard Soviet fishing vessels, a flight instructor, and a businessman. Peter Davenport was the founding president of a Seattle based biotechnology company, which currently employs over 300 scientists and technicians. In 1986, Peter Davenport was a candidate for the Washington State Legislature, and in 1992, he was a candidate for the United States House of Representatives. I know of no better person anywhere to address the subject of unidentified flying objects than my friend, Peter Davenport. Please welcome him. (0:06:23)

As some of you know and may have heard me say, it's been a rare privilege for me to be a regular contributor at this festival. It's just one of the most enjoyable conferences that is on the circuit, and that I feel deeply flattered to have been invited again this year to come and present what I know on the Phoenix Lights. Before I begin, there are a few thanks I would like to extend most of all to McMinneman's Corporation, and specifically to Tim Hill and the other volunteers who work with him. It's actually not a burden, it's a pleasure. It's been a pleasure for the last 10 or 12 years that I've done it, maybe more. (0:09:40)

I've forgotten how long I've served as emcee for this wonderful gathering of like-minded people. But I'm grateful to Jim Clarkson, who does such a magnificent job. And he was very flattering in his introduction, and I can return the compliments. He's one of the most skilled, most reliable UFO investigators that is in the field today. He's done a magnificent job, and that's part of the reason he was selected to be a replacement emcee this year. (0:10:14)

He's done a great job. Well, when Tim invited me to come and participate in this conference and told me what the theme was going to be, my first reaction was a little bit of panic. Because whereas in the past, I've made several presentations, I think five or six presentations over the last 16 years at this conference, there's always a little bit of adrenaline that you feel in preparing that presentation. (0:10:46)

And during past years, adrenaline because I'm sort of a UFO junkie, I think. And I like to, when I make a presentation, present everything if I can. And of course, that's not possible. And it's always been a bit of a challenge for me to decide which of the cases I wanted to include. (0:11:08)

Did I want to include the abducted elk from the state of Washington, or the mutilated car, or the incident that occurred up in Friday Harbor a year ago, or just what? And I'm not a very decisive person. Again, it's because I want to include everything in my presentation, and you can't do it. (0:11:28)

This year was a little bit different. I said, oh, good heavens, I'd love to present on the subject of the Phoenix Lights event. I was one of the early participants in that event. By virtue of my being director of the National UFO Reporting Center, the phone started ringing. (0:11:50)

And I'll talk more about this in the body of my talk. But that night, the 13th of March, 1997, the phone started ringing, and it was one of the most unusual experiences I've ever had as a UFO investigator. And what I'm going to be doing today is sharing a few anecdotes and a few thoughts on the subject. (0:12:14)

One of the things I noted yesterday when Francis and Lynn and Sue were talking about their experiences in Phoenix is, I believe that they probably have more information on the Phoenix Lights event and the sequelae to that, the follow-up, than I do, which makes it a little bit intimidating to speak before them on a subject that they know better than I do. (0:12:33)


However, there are a few redeeming features. I think I have some rather interesting information, and I had some interesting experiences that haven't been widely shared that I think you're going to enjoy. Well, this is a brief summary of what happened. By now, I suspect most of you or even all of you know what the Phoenix Lights event was all about. (0:12:58)

In my opinion, probably the most dramatic UFO event that has occurred in modern ufology going back to June or July of 1947. It's astonishing what happened and what those crafts were. And what is even more astonishing to me is the fact that the government and the press were very successful in quashing this very dramatic event. (0:13:32)

So I'll be talking... I always look for a theme for my presentations, and I guess my theme this year is, I know terribly little about the Phoenix Lights case relative to other people, but I have a few anecdotes and thoughts that I'm going to share. That's a... I know that's a long theme, but that's the best I'm able to do on short notice. (0:13:52)

Well, oh, let me go back to this map. Let's see, that's the map I want. This event that I'm going to be talking about and the other speakers have addressed during this conference is called the Phoenix Lights, of course, but in point of fact, it didn't start in Phoenix. As Jonathan and Stanley on Thursday night pointed out, there was a precursor, possible precursor event to this that occurred the night before, and I'm going to show a slide here very shortly, which will reinforce their comments on that and the fact that it is not strictly an Arizona phenomenon. (0:14:39)

The event actually coursed over into New Mexico as well to the east, but this is a summary of what happened that night, and it's probably not a complete summary. This is based on the very fine work of two gentlemen whom I'll introduce to you in just a few moments, but the Phoenix Lights event, as far as we know at this stage, started really up near Las Vegas and specifically over Henderson, Nevada, which is a bedroom community to Las Vegas on the southeast corner of that city. (0:15:20)

I will show you in a moment a report that I got that has these objects very near Henderson, Nevada, going directly overhead and going to the northeast. To the best of our knowledge, the objects then passed over all of these communities that you see shown here. Paulden, the first community that the National UFO Reporting Center received a report from. (0:15:49)

Sedona, Prescott, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley, Dewey, Cordes Junction, and Kingman. Very busy night, and the reason we can create this map is thanks to two gentlemen, again the same two gentlemen that I'll introduce to you in a moment. They are the ones who created this map, and this gives you a rough idea of some of the ground tracks that the objects involved in the Phoenix Lights event followed that night. (0:16:19)

This is thanks to Jim Dilettoso and Dr. Michael Tanner, who did an incredible job over the course of probably more than a year of documenting, interviewing actual eyewitnesses at the point where they stood at the time that they saw these events. And the reason I include this slide too is to show that it was not just a display of flares. (0:16:48)

A display of flares, as the government wants us all to think was the cause of this, would not have created all of the information that Jim Dilettoso and Dr. Michael Tanner collected from eyewitnesses showing how the objects turned in the sky and so on and so forth. (0:17:01)


Another witness claims that he was eyewitness to a bunch of objects that went over west of Phoenix, perhaps the same or perhaps different. It's one of the gaps in my understanding of this event, and there are many, I assure you, in my case. But this gives you an idea of how determined people were to record the data with regard to what they saw pass very near them in the Phoenix area and surrounding communities as well. (0:17:43)

Here are the two gentlemen to whom I would like to give very special commendation and thanks. Gentleman on the left is Jim Dilettoso. We heard Dr. Lynn Katai allude to him, and Francis did, and I think Sue Watson did as well yesterday. Indeed, they deserve a great deal of thanks. (0:18:03)

Jim Dilettoso on the left, the late Dr. Michael Tanner on the right, I think it was a couple years ago. Tragically, he was out riding his bike and his body was found by somebody shortly after he had left home. It's a great loss, but these two gentlemen devoted a great deal of their time and treasury and their personal lives to see to it that speakers, the likes of which we have at the conference here this weekend, have the information that allows us to share it with you. (0:18:33)

Well, here is what I believe is the first sighting report, at least the first sighting report reported to the National UFO Reporting Center. And bear in mind, 1997, as has been pointed out by prior speakers before you here, was before the inception of email and social media and so on and so forth. (0:19:05)

So we were still dealing with reports the way we have dealt with them since 1974 at the National UFO Reporting Center, namely through the postal system. And as you will see, I'm going to put some text on the screen that duplicates this. If you can't see it in the back, don't be alarmed, I'm going to go through it and read it in a moment. (0:19:22)

But this was a report written on the 18th of March 1997, and it was of a sighting in Henderson, Nevada. And this individual, whose name is deleted of course, says that he saw a V-shaped object the size of a low flying 747 in size. Let me go to the actual text, that might be easier for you to read. The size of a low-flying jet, 747 in size, it had six large lights under the wing and shining from the leading edge as headlights. (0:20:00)

It passed over my head, directly overhead, and continued on a straight line southeast course with the sound of what sounded like rushing wind. Well, not a sophisticated report, but it's certainly solid in telling us that this individual saw something very unusual, and he was so taken by it that he felt compelled to report it. Here's another similar report, but this is very interesting, and this points out one thing that we are confused about with regard to the Phoenix Lights, and that is the disparity of reports from different witnesses. (0:20:41)

This report was written two days after the last one I just read, written, composed on the 20th of March, 1997, but this individual indicated that the sighting occurred on March 12th, 1997, at 8 p.m. The time is right, the date is not right. (0:20:56)


The Phoenix Lights, of course, occurred on the 13th of March, not the 12th of March, and I called her back to clarify that point, and I said, don't you mean Thursday night, the 13th of March, 1997? And she said, Mr. Davenport, I know perfectly well what the date was. It occurred on my husband's birthday, and that was the 12th of March. So many of the bits of data that we have collected are a little bit confusing, and one thing I observe is that no single participant, or no single investigator, has all of the facts assembled in one place. (0:21:40)

Lynn Katai has done probably an amazing job with her documentary film and with her excellent book on the subject, but I find there are still things that confuse us and don't make sense. I've highlighted the parts of this report that I find particularly interesting, again, the 12th of March, 1997, and this individual says a couple other things that are very interesting. (0:22:03)

He said, it was a formation of many lights, perhaps two dozen, maybe 30 or so, and if you stop to consider that each one of the objects over Phoenix had somewhere between five and maybe nine lights on it, you begin to realize how many craft there may have been coursing over Phoenix that night, if we assume this date is flawed. (0:22:34)

One other point I'd like to call to your attention, two other points actually, this individual says that the object or objects that he saw, and he includes an illustration in his original report, were coursing towards the east, towards Nellis Air Force Base, which tells us that Nellis may have been involved in this and may even have alerted Luke Air Force Base at a later time that night. (0:23:03)

And one other point I'd like to call to your particular attention, is this individual estimates that the altitude was lower than a jet flies over the city, so I estimate 12 to 15,000 feet. In a few more slides, I'm going to be talking about that estimated altitude because we have some evidence that is fairly dramatic and fairly reliable that gives us some insight into just how big these objects are. (0:23:31)

In the past, some of the speakers have alluded to the fact that it might have been a football field size or several football field sizes in size or perhaps even the size of a football stadium or an aircraft carrier. Well, I'm going to address that issue here in a few slides and I think you'll find it very interesting. (0:23:51)

I have some, what I think is unique information on that subject. I thought I would share one of my worksheets. This is the first worksheet that I filled out with the, in response to the first call about the Phoenix Lights event. You can see I've entered 1922 hours, 7 22 p.m. on Thursday the 13th of March 1997. This is a report I received from Pauldon, Arizona, which is up north of Phoenix. It was a former police officer who had just pulled out of his driveway. (0:24:25)

He was driving away from his home. He looked to the, he looked to the west off to his left as he drove to the north and he saw a cluster of lights that was so alarming to him that it caused him to turn his vehicle around and go back home because he was alarmed for the welfare of his family members who were still back at the house. (0:24:44)

And he estimates the time that he saw the objects, one or more objects, at 8 15 to 8 17, he indicated that he thought that was a very accurate time. And you may wonder what these red entries are. He was talking so fast that all I had to do, all I, that I had time to do was make a few quick notes as I listened to his account of what he had just seen. (0:25:17)

And please bear in mind I had at this stage no idea that I was dealing with what would turn out to be such a dramatic event as the Phoenix lights were. The red, the red marks, the red writing you see here is when I went back and listened to the original tape and filled in the material that I didn't have time to write down the first time. (0:25:46)

One, a few interesting comments he indicated and emphasized there was no noise whatsoever. He shut off his car engine, it was very quiet, he heard nothing. He said he's skeptical by nature, again a former police officer, they're accustomed to hearing all sorts of things, some of which are true. (0:26:03)


And it's a very, very good report and that was the first report that I received. And that's a rough approximation of what he saw. This is not an illustration by him, but an illustration which is very similar to video we have of what he saw. Unfortunately, the video is very grainy, very granular. The objects in the formation are so small that they're very difficult to see, particularly on a big screen. (0:26:36)

And whether this is the same object that that police officer saw or not, I am unable to say. My inclination is to say that this is a different craft. In fact, we estimate, my estimate is, and the estimate is based on what Jim Dilettoso and Dr. Michael Tanner discovered in the course of their investigation, I think, but I am not sure. (0:27:07)

And Lynn Katai is probably a better authority on this matter. My suspicion is that we're dealing with at least five, possibly six, triangular craft. Also, a huge disk was reported over Phoenix the night of the lights, so possibly as many as seven craft, but that is an estimate. But this is what Tim Lee and the late Tim Lee, tragically, and his wife saw come directly overhead. (0:27:40)

And in one of Lynn's videos yesterday, you heard Tim, he had a purple shirt and a black vest on, that might help you remember him. He reported that as the object flew over, it tended to smear the light of the stars that he could see between the two wings of this craft. A very interesting report, and he's by no means the only one to report that fact. (0:28:10)

Many others reported that as it passed near the moon to the earth, it tended to smear the light. I have a better slide of that. It smeared the light so the image was not crisp. Very interesting aspect of this. Clearly, we're dealing with a technology that is vastly, vastly beyond anything we have on this planet. And it shouldn't be a surprise that it would have an effect on the image of an object. (0:28:41)

Well, I received many, many written reports. All of them are filed at the National UFO Reporting Center. This is one of the more interesting. And Lynn Katai alluded to this phenomenon yesterday, last night, during her presentation. This is a very interesting report. And I asked the guy, why did you use a piece of black paper and white ink? Usually people do the reverse, piece of white paper and black ink. (0:29:14)

And he said, well, Mr. Davenport, I was so shocked by what I saw the night of the Phoenix Lights event that I wanted to duplicate it as accurately as I possibly could. So I used the black paper to indicate the black background of the night sky. And I used white ink to indicate the lights that I saw. (0:29:35)

Here is an example of, again, a wedge-shaped craft, a triangular craft. And I asked him to put a full moon in his illustration. This is the size of a full moon and this is the size of the object that he saw relative to the size of that full moon in the night sky. (0:29:59)

Very high quality report. There's a little bit better illustration of that same phenomenon. One of the things that I suspect is the case, but I cannot prove it. Perhaps some of the other speakers are in possession of more information on this subject. I believe we're dealing with objects that have the capacity to change their appearance, to change how they looked to people on the ground. (0:30:27)

I'll show some more evidence in a moment that indicates that to be the case. This is a very interesting slide. One of the quite reliable witnesses, in my opinion, to the Phoenix Lights event was Captain Trigg Johnston. Here, his name is up here. Let me tell you a little bit about Trigg Johnston and his background. (0:30:52)

In 1997, at the time of the Phoenix Lights, he was a senior pilot, senior international pilot, I believe for TWA, if I'm not mistaken, with accumulated 13,000 hours of flight time. Do you think he's a pretty good witness? Pretty reliable? I think so. And this is the illustration that he provided, and I include this because he points out that the object looked different to him and his son. Both of them saw this object together. (0:31:20)

It looked different depending on its orientation to their location on the ground. Again, more evidence suggesting to me and to others, Dr. Michael Tanner and Jim DeLaTosso and I talked about this aspect on many occasions. It was one of the confusing aspects of the event. (0:31:43)


I think this is a report also by Trigg Johnston, again showing how the object looked from one vantage point, how it looked as it went overhead, and in point of fact, I'll show a slide here very shortly that indicates that the objects may have been able to move one light from one portion of the fuselage, let's call it, to another portion of the fuselage. (0:32:15)

That occurred on at least one occasion that I'm aware of. Here's another example of how the appearance of one of the craft was quite different from what other people reported. In this case, we have multiple lights, not just five or seven or nine lights on the ventral surface of the craft as it went overhead, but many lights, and also indicates that there were, I think, blue light that streamed off the corners, the trailing corners of that object. (0:32:49)

Well, there's an artist's rendition, and I take no responsibility for this cowboy influence. I made the mistake of giving my telephone credit card to an artist who wanted to call the people and get the fine detail of what they could tell him about what they had seen, and he elected to put a western theme into this, but that's a little better view showing the multiple lights along the two leading edges, and again, light streaming off the trailing edges of a triangle. (0:33:23)

This, too, is a very interesting illustration because of its pedigree. One of the people who called the hotline on the night of the incident, along with Sue and others, many others as well, Sue Watson, one of the people who called the hotline was a young female who's an architect, and she's very skilled at mechanical drawing, she told me, and she did this very nice illustration of what she saw. (0:34:03)

Again, we have a combination, in this case, of five lights along the leading the nose and the trailing edges of the objects, but in addition, she said, there was a faint glow that emanated from the leading edge of this craft. The interesting part of her report is, after I received this illustration and received her written report, I called her to clarify a few points on some of the details, and her husband answered the phone, and he said, Mr. Davenport, we appreciate your effort, but based on how shocked my wife was by the events she witnessed on the, on Thursday night, the 13th of March, she has elected to withdraw from any further activity in the UFO field at all. (0:34:54)

She was profoundly shocked by what had, what she had seen passed over, pass over her head. Here's a slide from one of the witnesses. This is an example of a witness who claimed that one of the lights hopped, in this case, from the nose of the craft to another position, and this light hopped to the position from which the first light had departed. I wish I had a video of that or documentation beyond that simple illustration. (0:35:23)

This is, gives you some idea, and I'll be alluding to these places in just a moment. (0:35:30)


I'm going to play some interesting audio clips in a little bit, but I include this, this slide in order to bring some places to mind. This is Sky Harbor Airport. I think this is, well, Cave Creek to the north, Carefree to the north on another road, Pima Road off to the east, this is Camelback Road, I think probably that leads to, very close to where Sue Watson lives, and I'll be alluding to that location a little bit more here shortly. (0:36:07)

Just to bring all of these images together to see the variability of the reports we saw, the things that changed was the number of, were the number of lights, the position, relative position of the lights, some said they were positioned along, equally spaced along the leading edge. Others claimed that what they had seen were three lights clustered at the nose of the craft and two lights at the tail end. (0:36:40)

Color changed, orange, white, some people reported blue or green, I believe. That gives you some idea of just how confusing the jumble of information that was being reported to us in Washington State and to other investigators really was. Well, this is an artist's rendition, but in a moment you will see the actual original that Sue Watson submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center just three days after the event had occurred. (0:37:19)

And we heard Sue say yesterday afternoon that she at one time was a little confused by the number of lights that she had seen, she and her four children had seen on the object that sat above their, her home, their home, for upwards of five minutes. I think we heard her say that she's going to stick to seven. (0:37:40)

So that is a rendition, an artist's rendition of what passed directly over Sue Watson. There's her original handwritten note or hand drawing. She faxed this to me on Sunday the 16th, probably the first report I received. And I want to just do a little shout out to Sue. She's, yesterday afternoon during her presentation, I complimented her on just how high quality a witness she is. (0:38:08)

I wish all of our witnesses were as outspoken and as assertive and willing to accommodate instructions as Sue would. She did a magnificent job and I compliment her again. But that is her original illustration. And here is, many of you will recognize this, this is Camelback Mountain, so named I presume because of the outline of the top of the mountain. (0:38:38)

I presume it's the head of the camel on the west side, the hump of the camel and the rump of the kneeling camel. That is a photograph taken from Sky Harbor Airport looking to the north-northeast approximately. And it gives you some idea of how close Camelback Mountain is to Sky Harbor Airport. Both of them played a role in the Phoenix Lights event as we've heard from prior speakers. (0:39:05)

This is a photograph of the top of Camelback Mountain, a popular hiking area. And I'd like to share with you some figures on the height of this mountain. (0:39:14)


The highest point on this mountain is listed by the Coast and Geodetic Survey at 2,704 feet. It's about a 1,200 foot climb, is my understanding, to get to the top of the mountain from the base. So that places the surrounding area in Phoenix at about 1,500 feet. And you will understand why I present this information here in just a moment. (0:39:48)

Again, we go to an illustration provided or an artist's rendition of what Sue had hover above her. And what I would like to do now is play about a 90-second long audio clip of what Sue Watson had to say about her experience. This is a clip that's been shared by Jeff Rents, the radio broadcaster. We had Sue on that program and a couple other witnesses and investigators on the 12th of November 2002. So it's the eve of the fifth anniversary of the sighting. (0:40:31)

Let me see. Yes, here I have it. I'm working with a new computer, forgive me. Let me play for you what Sue Watson had to say on Jeff Rents' radio program, and then we'll talk about the altitude that that object was located at above her head. Here we go. And her voice is a little bit accelerated. (0:40:52)

It's a little higher pitch, but you'll recognize it, I'm sure. Here we go. I went in and I called the airport and news stations and various people like that and could not get anything. But actually, I think it was the airport that gave me Peter's number. Very good. Okay, go ahead and tell us about it. Tell us what happened. Well, actually, my children had gone out of the house before I did. We were going to a concert that night. (0:41:15)

And it was a little bit, maybe 20 minutes after 8, I'm not sure, 825 or so. And my daughter came running in and said, Mom, you've got to come out of here right now. We've got something coming over Camelback Mountain, which is a landmark in Phoenix, and we live just a mile below it. So I ran outside. (0:41:37)

At that time, I had four children that were outside with me. And we just watched it. It was the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen come over my house. And it came over extremely slow. I mean, it was just kind of coming over this Camelback Mountain, which is, like I say, a landmark with lots of housing on the mountain. (0:41:53)

I live in a pretty populated area, so everybody is watching the same thing that we are. And the kids started laying on their backs on the yard. They laid down? Oh, they laid a couple of the two boys laid down on their backs in the front yard, because it was like magnificent. It was lit with this kind of, oh, I don't know how I almost, I told Peter it was almost a yellowish light like they have in parking lots. (0:42:22)

And it was almost a boomerang shape. And it was a solid vehicle. It wasn't something that was separate. It was coming right toward your house? It was coming right at, you know, very low. It was flying extremely low. There was absolutely no sound on it. And there were, I can't remember, I think there were five bright lights in front. And actually, at one point, I saw a laser kind of go down. (0:42:43)

It was really strange. You know, we all thought different things. But what we were doing was just basically watching at a very, very slow pace, this vehicle just flying over. What a sight. What a sight. (0:42:52)


There you have it. An object that hovered over her home for five minutes. Her son, her two sons lay down on their backs as we heard her say yesterday during her fine presentation. It must have been a phenomenal sighting. Let's explore how high this is. Some of you who were here to see her presentation yesterday may recall that during the Q&A, I think I was the last person to pose a question to her. (0:43:27)

And I invited Sue to hold up her arms and indicate how big this object appeared to her to be. And those of you who were here remember she held up her arms about like that. And I asked her a few weeks ago, in fact, on the Jeff Rents radio program, if she could estimate the angle that her arms formed as she held them up to indicate how big this object was. (0:43:59)

Our best estimate is that the angle her arms formed was 135 degrees. That is more than a third of a circle. Well, let's use that information to try to calculate what the altitude of that object was and therefore what its size was. We can't do altitude from her data, but in a few moments I'm going to play another audio clip that will give you some idea of how high this object was. (0:44:29)

Our best estimate based on a conversation with a U.S. Air Force airman, you'll understand who he was in a moment here, that's about 130, actually simulates 135 degree angle subtended by that object. If we assume that the altitude was 9,000 feet above Sue's head and that the angle here is 135 degrees, the angle here is 22.5 degrees, I'm sure all of you remember your trigonometry from your junior year in high school, but I'm going to walk you through a few items here. (0:45:16)

For those of you who are mathematicians or engineers or people who use angles all the time, you will recognize this, but the cotangent of this angle, 22.5 degrees, which is the complement to the angle, half of the angle that Sue was looking at, that she formed with her arms, the cotangent of this angle is the ratio of the length of this side, the adjacent side, divided by the length of the opposite side. Does that all make sense? (0:45:46)

I'm sure you remember this from your junior year in high school. And we assume that this altitude of the object was 9,000 feet. The cotangent of 22.5 degrees, that is the ratio of this side to this side again, is 2.4142. That is, it's 2.4 times greater than this distance. That tells us that this side, which is one half of the length of the wingspan of that object that hovered over Sue Watson, is 4.115 miles. (0:46:25)

That's half of the width of that craft. In other words, the object that hovered over Sue's home was about 8.2, perhaps 8.4 terrestrial statute miles. That's how big it was. (0:46:46)


And just an aside for a moment, if I may, one of the things I'm quite interested in is the strange disappearance of the Malaysian airliner, I think two years ago, MH370. I was interviewed by a few people who are interested to know my thoughts on whether the disappearance of that aircraft might have been UFO related. My response was no, I have no reason to believe that. I have no evidence that would support that theory. (0:47:16)

However, I cited this example to point out to them that there's nothing that prevents one of these craft, by virtue of their size, there's nothing that prevents them from capturing an airliner and stuffing it away in one corner of their ashtray, and they can fly off with it. And they might even be hard put to find that craft. The airliner, it would be so small relative to the overall size of the UFO. One of the things we heard Sue talk about, and in this audio clip I just played, was the fact that she witnessed the object, as it moved south away from her home, to fire down a shaft or a bolt of light that I believe she says struck the ground. (0:48:15)

Very interesting phenomenon. And one of the things I observe about this report is the fact that we have evidence, and I'm going to share that evidence in a few moments here. I have evidence that suggests that at this moment, two F-15, U.S. Air Force F-15 fighters, and I'm going to share with you the pedigree of those fighters, they came from a very interesting unit, were approaching this object. (0:48:41)

I've oftentimes said we're scrambled to intercept this object. I don't think that intercept is an appropriate term, given the size of this object. Two F-15s were approaching from the north at no doubt very high speed, probably many hundreds of knots velocity, just as this object fired a bolt of light down that I suspect struck the ground. (0:49:09)

My suspicion is, and pure conjecture, I don't like to conjecture when I can avoid it, but this is too important a point to gloss over and not mention. My suspicion is that that may have been an indicator from this object to the F-15s that they were not to fire on it, that it was an armed craft. They'd better be careful. Well, in a couple slides I'm going to play what I consider to be a very interesting and very important piece of data related to the Phoenix Lights. But before I play it, because the quality of the audio is a little bit flawed, some of you may not be able to hear everything, I'd like to go through a few of the points that are raised by this airman in the audio clip to make sure that you're looking for these issues. (0:50:02)

At the very beginning of the tape, the airman refers to dignitaries on board. He refers to dignitaries because those two F-15s that I've alluded to already were part of a very special, very secretive group called the Air Force One and Air Force Two Protection Group. I'll talk more about that later in my presentation, but the allusion to dignitaries on board refers to the fact that when the president or vice president or dignitaries are flown, they are protected as aggressively in the air as they are on the ground. No surprise there, I think. Another thing the voice, the airman's voice will say is, he alludes to the Prescott Valley Airport. He says, there was a near miss with a small Cessna. One of these craft, perhaps the craft that hovered over Sue's home, passed very close to a Cessna that was descending into Prescott Valley Airport. He cites the time, he thinks it was at 8.32 p.m., which corresponds nicely to a lot of the other reports. (0:51:13)

He alludes to the intersection of 7th Avenue and Indian School Road. He said they had a visual on it, they being the two F-15 pilots. They got gun camera footage of it. They had no radar data, no radar tape. A few of the other things he alludes to in this audio clip that you're about to hear is, my understanding is that's what they got, strictly white noise. (0:51:42)

The whole instrument panel of the lead F-15 went to white noise as he approached the object to the south of him. He said it, that is the craft, the UFO, crossed the pattern of the outbound runways at Sky Harbor. We've already heard that from prior speakers and from the air traffic controllers and from airline pilots who were sitting at a gate at Sky Harbor Airport who refused, it's my understanding, they refused to leave the gate when they saw this huge object hovering over the airport. He said the F-15 pilot's understanding is that it was at approximately 18,000 feet. As the two F-15s came from the north, they were intercepting an object that it was at 18,000 feet, according to the pilot. And it was descending. It got down to, you'll hear a term in this audio clip, Angel's 10. Angel's 10 is aviation terminology that means on the high side of 10,000 feet. (0:52:46)

That's what gives us the estimate of the altitude of this object. And the airman then closes the audio clip by saying we had a complete lockdown of the facility. The facility was closed. In point of fact, we have evidence, we have assertions, I should say, that Luke Air Force Base put a big chain on their front gate during the Phoenix Lights event. (0:53:09)

Yeah, comment, that'll stop them for sure. That'll scare the daylights out of them. (0:53:14)


Now, I would like to play that audio clip. I consider this to be profoundly important and very interesting evidence of what really happened that night. And then I'll discuss whether we can rely on this data. This is about a two and a half minute audio clip. Let me set it up by explaining how I got this audio clip. (0:53:43)

I had been working from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. that night, the night of the Phoenix Lights event. I was exhausted. There were papers everywhere. People were calling every minute or every two minutes and all I had time to do was, as I pointed out, just scribble a few handwritten notes, the person's name, the person's location, the person's contact information, usually a telephone number, and a brief one-sentence summary of what they had just seen, allegedly. (0:54:12)

And there were dozens of those papers littering the floor of my apartment at the time. Well, I went to bed at about 0300 Friday morning and, thank heavens, I think the Lord intervened on my behalf. I forgot to turn the ringer off on the telephone, as I usually do at night when I go to bed. (0:54:43)

And I was just falling asleep. It was 0320 hours and here's another telephone call. Oh no, what have I done to myself? So I picked it up. This very bright sounding voice said, Mr. Davenport, he said, my name is such and such. He said, you don't know me, but I know you. He said, I am a U.S. Air Force airman at Luke Air Force Base and I am calling you because of what happened at Luke tonight. (0:55:08)

He said it was a very unusual night. He said, I have information that I would like to share with you and the only reason I'm able to share it with you is because I have not yet been ordered not to tell you what happened. Well, let me play this audio clip and watch for those issues that I showed just a slide or two ago. Here we go. (0:55:27)

This is what I'm talking about. He's a real professional. I've never seen this man scared. Are you familiar with the term white noise flanking out radar? My understanding is that's what they got was strictly white noise. His statement was that they followed this aircraft. It went on a straight line course heading towards Vector Harbor Airport, which is one of our main airports here. (0:56:26)

And it entered the pattern, Sky Harbor Airport, crossed the pattern of the outbound runways, the outbound runways that was coming in from the West. They encountered going in originally two 737s and a DC-10 taking off from Sky Harbor. We have an America West hub here, so we've got a lot to play with. (0:56:40)

This aircraft stated it was, his understanding was that it was at approximately 18,000 feet, descending to 10,005. When it got to Angels 10, 10-5, completely in the dark. He doesn't know if it was one aircraft or several aircraft. He saw five distinct lights in a triangular pattern. First three lights were in a tight triangular formation. One of the rear lights was a starboard at about, he said that it was about 200 yards. (0:57:02)

And then the other light was at about 400 yards, also on the east side of the triangle, if you will. His belief is that this might have been more than one aircraft. He could not describe the aircraft. All he could say is that there were lights, there were no strobe lights. It was a as bright as a star, not like the North Star. Right now Mars and Jupiter are very bright in the sky. (0:57:18)

But this was not very bright. And they dimmed. And when they dimmed, he realized landing lights generally do not have that capability. They then went dimmed in unison. After dimming, they went completely dark. The aircraft then passed into the pattern. They came back on, followed a straight line of 7th Avenue, which cuts right to Phoenix. And they kept on going, turned and came back down. They passed a mountain called South Mountain. He was scared to death. (0:57:52)

He is not sure what it was. After they landed, we had a complete lockdown. The facility was closed. (0:57:57)


The facility was closed. The pilot was scared to death. I tend to question that. Fighter pilots are a different breed of cat altogether. But I'd like to discuss a few elements of what he just said. Could you hear that all right? Could you make it out? Okay. I see a few hands in the back maybe had difficulty listening. (0:58:25)

So let me walk you through what happened. Two F-15 fighters took off from Luke Air Force Base and they both had a type of device suspended from their starboard wing that looks like that. That is what is known as a Lantern II pod. And I'm going to talk about that for just a moment because it played a very important role in what happened that night and what the pilots must have seen. (0:58:53)

These two F-15s, I have reason to believe in another part of this conversation with this airman, were part of the Air Force One and Air Force Two Protection Group that I've mentioned earlier. The Air Force One and Air Force Two Protection Group was activated that day, the 13th of March 1997, I'm sure, to fly President Clinton from Washington D.C. down to, I believe, Miami or perhaps Orlando, Florida, to allow him to play golf with the Australian professional golfer, Greg Norman. That's what our President was doing. (0:59:26)

There seems to be a propensity among Presidents for playing golf. President Clinton was flown to Florida and dropped off. The Air Force One and Air Force Two Protection Group, as I've described, defends the President's aircraft aggressively. Whenever the President flies, it is my understanding, I cannot prove it, I believe that his aircraft, Air Force One, is accompanied by at least one AWACS, possibly more, more than one. (1:00:01)

And in addition to an AWACS, an AWACS doesn't do any good if you detect an approaching aircraft. After all, anybody with an executive jet would be in a position to strike the President's aircraft, and that's what you want to avoid. So in addition to the AWACS aircraft, there would have to be fighter jets that would be able to down any kind of approaching bogey. Well, they use F-15s, not F-16s. I make that distinction for a particular reason. (1:00:33)

F-15s, because they have two engines, F-16s have one. Luke Air Force Base was exclusively, in 1997, was exclusively an F-16 training base. But these two F-15s had flown in from Florida after they had departed the President's aircraft, the flotilla of military aircraft that defend the President disperse. They don't land at the same airport that the President's aircraft has landed at, and the two F-15s had Lantern II pods. (1:01:15)

A Lantern II pod is a very, very sophisticated addendum to an F-15 that has... they come in several versions. This is probably not the version that was hanging off that aircraft, but it's similar to it. They have several optical devices that allow the pilot in the fighter to look out as far as 500 miles to visually capture a target and identify it visually. (1:01:38)

Well, that's what a Lantern II pod is. And this is what it allows, this is a night vision, night, a version of a night sighting of the ground using a Lantern II pod. It's a low-light activated device, and it's used for both targeting and navigation. (1:02:01)


Well, I mention this because the pilot of those, or probably the two pilots of those two F-15s must have had an unrivaled view of that object that they were flying towards. And the lead pilot, according to this airman in another part of our conversation, that conversation lasted 42 minutes, what you've heard is just a 151-second excerpt of my longer conversation with him. When the F-15s returned to Luke Air Force Base and landed, they managed to taxi up to the hot pads from which they had departed. All of this comes from the airman. He was on duty that night. (1:02:46)

He helped scramble those two F-15s. They parked, and the pilot apparently was unable to open his own canopy, and he was certainly unable to get out of his cockpit under his own steam. So his ground crew opened the canopy. They undid his chest straps, his lap straps, and his knee straps in the cockpit, and they physically lifted the pilot out of the cockpit and got him stood up upright. (1:03:25)

As they were doing this, the airman reports, the pilot was recounting to them what he had just been through, the intercept that had just occurred. That's how we got the 18,000 feet altitude. The pilot had reported that to his ground crew, and so on and so forth. It's a very interesting corroboration, I think, of what all other witnesses are reporting, and in fact Sue reports that she could see... I'm paraphrasing, and I'm on thin ice here. (1:03:51)

I should talk to her in greater detail on this point. My understanding is that she, or perhaps her four children, were witness to two airplanes coming from the north that were approaching the craft above her. Well, I'm going to leave some time for questions, so I'm going to accelerate this a little bit. (1:04:22)

This is one of Mike Christen's... I believe this is from Mike Christen. This is the string of lights that Lynn addressed yesterday. I have to admit, for the longest time, I assumed that these lights were indeed flares. My suspicion is that the U.S. government has, on a shelf, contingency plans such that when they have a very dramatic UFO sighting, they can do things that will allow them, at a later date, to sort of roil the waters surrounding the incident. (1:04:57)

And I assumed that one of the things they did on this particular night, towards 10 p.m. or perhaps a couple minutes after 10 p.m., was deploy a jet fighter and deploy flares to the southwest of Phoenix, over the Gila Bend firing range. Lynn's data forces me to back away from that assumption. She has done some excellent investigation of that point, and I think I'm, in lieu of making any kind of categorical statement, I would defer to her and to her book and to her documentary film on that point. But in support of Lynn's position, what I think is Lynn's position on this, I provide a daytime equivalent of those lights, the background of what we assume those lights were, or where they were later during the incident. (1:06:04)

Well, let me show a few more slides. Sue and her four children were not the only ones to emphasize just how big this was. In one of Lynn's videos yesterday, you saw Mrs. Stacey Rode interviewed, and she made the point that the object that was above her and her family was so big that you could take a newspaper and open it up and hold it up, and the object was bigger than the two pages of the newspaper. (1:06:38)

Well, this is Stacey Rode's hand-drawn image of what went over her and her family. They were driving from Tucson to the northwest to Phoenix on Interstate 10. They were very near Casa Grande, or what I would pronounce as Casa Grande, but I'm not sure of the pronunciation, Casa Grande. And the point I would like to make here, this is Stacey Rode's handwritten note to accompany her illustration. (1:07:11)

She said, the object we saw was much, much larger than is previously described. As it went over our car, it literally blanketed the sky above us and around us. I'd like to stress how huge this was. Stacey admitted that her husband was doing between 70 and 80 miles an hour driving to the northwest on Interstate 10. So they were going to the northwest at 80 miles an hour, let's say. (1:07:39)

The object was going the opposite direction at an unspecified velocity. She estimates that the object was directly overhead their car. It blotted out the sky for upwards of one to two minutes. I'll allow you to do the calculations of how big that object must have been. I suspect, but I cannot prove, Sue Watson may have a better idea on this point, I suspect that this may have been the same object that had hovered just a few minutes prior over Sue's home and over Sky Harbor Airport. But again, there's so many objects that it's very difficult to know for sure. (1:08:27)

Sighting at 8.25 p.m., so it's about at the right time. To give you some idea of how big it was, in the opinion of Stacey and her family members, she was sitting in the right seat, her husband was driving, their two children in the back seat, and her mother-in-law between her two children. (1:08:44)

And her children reported when they looked, her son looked out the left-hand side of the car, and he could see the tip of the object to the south. I believe it was her daughter who looked out the right side of their vehicle as they're driving towards Phoenix, and her daughter could see the tip of the object to the north, an immense object. (1:09:05)

And this is a artist's rendition of how many airplanes you could have landed or set on the back of that object. Indeed, I think that's a very conservative estimate, a very conservative illustration. Well, there were many other things that did take place that night, and I think the definitive work on the Phoenix Lights is yet to be done. (1:09:36)

Bill Hamilton wrote a book, I think about 1998 or 99 it was published, did a heroic job of trying to assemble as much data as he could possibly gather from the witnesses. (1:09:43)


But one of the things, one of the types of reports I received was the fact people saw orbs streaking across the night sky. I'm unable to document that, but it's a very interesting aspect, particularly in light of recent events starting just about four years ago this month, May of 2012, our center started receiving not just a few but many reports of clusters of red, orange, yellow, amber, and gold lights. (1:10:25)

Many of you who have attended earlier presentations by me at this conference have heard me talk on that subject, and I've shown some rather interesting photographic documentation. It makes me wonder whether this was a precursor of that phenomenon. But here are a couple very interesting slides. One of the things I did, and this was principally predicated on my two conversations with Sue Watson on the 13th of March, I called Luke Air Force Base. And here is the proof of that claim. (1:11:00)

Luke is in Litchfield Park, Arizona, and their telephone number, for the switchboard anyway, is 602-856-7411. And I made a call at 10.02 p.m. and again at 10.19 p.m. with a call made to Pahrump, Nevada, in between those two calls. That was a call to Art Bell to apprise him of what was going on. He too had been taking reports over the telephone, much the way I was over the hotline. (1:11:32)

But at my first call, I was directed to the switchboard. They're the ones who answered. I identified myself, as I always do. I don't like to deceive people, if I can avoid it. I said, I'm Peter Davenport. I'm the director of the National UFO Reporting Center. I have reports of very unusual events over Phoenix tonight, and I wonder if you could please put me in touch with the officer of the day. (1:11:56)

Usually, a major military facility has one officer who is on duty at any given time. So, the switchboard operator said, one moment, Mr. Davenport, and she connected me to a gentleman. I went through the same spiel, and I said, could I ask who are you, please? He had not identified himself. Interestingly, that's very strange for a military facility. (1:12:20)

And he said, well, I'm Staff Sergeant so-and-so. And I said, well, I'd like to speak to the officer of the day. And he said, Mr. Davenport, I am the commander of Luke Air Force Base tonight. Now, any of you who've been in the military or have experience in that venue know that they don't put a sergeant in charge of a major Air Force base as officer of the day. So, they were screening information. I knew that from the outset. (1:12:44)

And I called them back to try to get more information, and they put me on hold, as I recall, and didn't connect me to anybody. That's what happened when I tried to call them. Here in the closing slides, I'd like to share a few more things with you. This is March 14th, Friday morning. You'll notice a few calls to Los Angeles, area code 213580. I've deleted the last four digits. (1:13:16)

That was a news collection point. They masqueraded as having a Seattle office. And point of fact, it was UPI, United Press International. I had dealt with them in years prior. And in fact, I will share with you the name of the person I spoke with. I mean, these people are in the business of outing everybody else. Why should we protect them? The name of the gentleman was Joe Fassbender. Very nice guy. (1:13:45)

I had had several interesting conversations with him. And I called Joe Fassbender at 7.32 a.m. to Los Angeles and then called again. He was not in at 7.32 a.m. I'm not surprised by that. (1:14:03)


And I called him and talked to him. I said, Joe, this is Peter Davenport. I'm calling from the National UFO Reporting Center to inquire whether you are aware of what happened over Phoenix last night. And he said, no, Peter, what happened? I said, well, we don't know the facts yet, but something very dramatic occurred. (1:14:26)

And I'm calling to share the information with you with the hopes that we might get some press coverage. So the press, I include this slide to let you know that the press, at least UPI, United Press International, had access to this data the next morning, within just a few hours of my conversation with that U.S. Air Force airman. And they declined interest. And I said, Joe said, well, we have breaking news, Peter. And I said, what's the breaking news? (1:14:54)

And he said, well, the results of Mark Furman's latest polygraph test have just been released. This is after O.J. Simpson had been acquitted. That was the news that eclipsed the news of the Phoenix Lights event. Tragic. On the other hand, I would like to cite and compliment Laura Miss, Miss, I think it is Laura Hinchey at that time, Miss, who did an article for the Prescott Daily, the Daily Courier in Prescott, Arizona. If she were here, I'd give her a big hug to congratulate her in public because she did what I feel journalists, all journalists should be doing with regard to UFO phenomenon, and that is giving it even, even-handed, level, factual coverage. (1:15:48)

And, of course, they don't. As we've heard many speakers cite here, this year and in prior years, the press just ignores this, this phenomenon, and oftentimes strives to lampoon those of us who are so interested in what's going on around us. Well, I'm going to play just a, show just a few more slides here. (1:16:19)

Some of you who've attended prior lectures who've heard me present on this subject know or have heard me present this information before, but many of you may not be aware of this. President Clinton, who was at the home of Greg Norman, as I've cited, he's overnighted at the home of Greg Norman on Thursday night, the 13th of March. And it was that night that President Clinton injured his knee, the ligaments in his knee, to the extent that the president had to be spirited back to Washington, D.C., allegedly. (1:16:56)

And I have to say allegedly because I question whether he was taken back to Washington, D.C. or not. You may recall just over two years ago, President Clinton was on a late night television talk show, and he spontaneously started talking about UFOs, and he cited the fact that he had had, he had sustained an injury the night of that event. (1:17:25)

But if I had been that host on that television program, what I would have requested of the president is that he raise the leg of his pant to show the surgical scars from the alleged surgery that he is, was reported to have undergone. Well, this is a very interesting page from the New York Times. This is Saturday, the 15th of March, 1997. The Ides of March, by the way. (1:17:56)

Shakespeare warned us about that date. It's almost prophetic. But President Clinton on a hospital bed at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, I believe. This is his wife. And it's ironic, and I think of great significance, that the president of the United States sustained this alleged injury within minutes of the U.S. Air Force intercepting that object very close to Sue Watson's home, and perhaps other objects as well. (1:18:30)

My suspicion is, combined with a report from Bill Hamilton, that U.S. military forces were elevated from a normal peacetime defense condition five, skipping defense condition four altogether, going directly to defense condition three. (1:18:44)


And at that moment, the president of the United States sustains a fairly, allegedly, a fairly serious injury to his knee. That is a lot of coincidence to be taking place all within seconds or at most within minutes of one another. So in closing, what I would like to do is give you just a little thumbnail sketch of how I view the Phoenix Lights and how I suspect events unfolded and what their significance was. (1:19:22)

You remember one of the early written reports I showed you indicated that these craft had flown in the direction of Nellis Air Force Base. So one of the first reports that may have gone to the Space Command or the North American Air Defense Command may have been from Nellis. I presume that their air traffic controllers at Nellis tend to look out the window once in a while, and they may very well have seen these craft that passed, allegedly, very close to it. (1:19:54)

So that may have been their first report. Also, the aircraft that was descending into Prescott Valley Airport that night was piloted by a retired U.S. Navy Admiral. He was flying from Denver to Prescott Valley, and as he descended to the west into Prescott Valley, an object moved that was so large, moved across Prescott Valley that completely extinguished all the lights. (1:20:23)

It obscured the lights on the ground from his vantage point, and he must have known that there was something very unusual taking place. Then, reports from citizens, calls to Luke Air Force Base, switchboard, then the interception by two F-15s. I am not in the least surprised, based on what those pilots must have reported back to Phoenix, that our military forces were elevated to DEFCON 3, which is one step short, it's my understanding, I'm not a specialist in this field, but just one step short, of course, of DEFCON 2, which is all-out world war, absent the use of nuclear weapons. (1:21:03)

A very serious, very serious military situation. The lead Air Force pilot, the gentleman who was unable to get out of the cockpit of his F-14 when they returned to Luke Air Force Base, reported to his ground crew that as he sat in his cockpit, in his aircraft, as he was streaking towards this unidentified craft, the left-hand wingtip of it was at his nine o'clock position. (1:21:32)

It completely filled his windscreen, it filled the entire right-hand side of his canopy, so the object from his vantage point, as he's streaking towards it at no doubt many hundreds of knots in velocity, completely filled his canopy. I suspect a pilot in that circumstance, and this is a very experienced pilot, he's a lieutenant colonel, formerly of the Maryland Air National Guard, probably gave a very dramatic report of what he was intercepting to Luke Air Force Tower. So Luke probably called the North American Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs as well. (1:22:20)

So I make these points because I suspect the Air Force and the North American Air Defense Command were getting reports from everywhere of incredibly large craft. Could we believe, could we address the possibility that they did not respond to all of that information? I think that would be highly unlikely. I'm not surprised that they declared a defense condition three, and my suspicion is the alleged injury of the president had to do directly with the Phoenix Light event. (1:22:56)

So I think that's an interesting, very interesting facet to the Phoenix Lights event. Last couple of slides, I see I'm running out of time here. This is the first national, as far as I know, national grade coverage. This was on June 18th, 1997, March, April, May, June 18th. This is 14 weeks after the event. Suddenly the news breaks in the national newspapers. (1:23:28)

This is USA Today, the Wednesday, the 18th of June. I was winging my way to New Jersey at this time. This is how the Arizona Republic chose to cover it. They labeled people like me as UFO maniacs. I think this is on the 19th or 20th of June. Again, 14 weeks after the incident. (1:23:52)

And the last incident I would like to discuss, and then we'll go to Q&A if you'd like. A few weeks after the Phoenix Lights event, there was another very strange incident that, to the best of my knowledge, has not been resolved adequately. And that is the disappearance of Captain Craig Button with his A-10 Warthog. They had taken off from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, which was a training base for A-10s, A-10 Warthogs. And while he was winging his way to the west with two of his students, he just peeled off from the flight and headed north in his A-10 Warthog and disappeared. (1:24:35)

In a recent radio program, I said that his remains had never been found, his plane had never been found. Somebody called me and corrected me on that point, but I can't confirm that that correction is accurate. In any event, a U.S. Air Force captain disappeared with his A-10 Warthog that had live bombs on it. The Air Force must have been very aggressive in trying to find it. (1:24:59)

Whether they did or not, I question. It's a very interesting codicil or addendum to the Phoenix Lights event. In any event, ladies and gentlemen, it's been a pleasure to share with you the information that I have available to me of the Phoenix Lights. I hope it has been of interest to you, and if we could have the lights up, I'd be happy to address questions and answers if anybody has anything. Thank you very much. (1:25:23)

Thank you very much. Yes, Peter, that incident with the flares from the Maryland National Guard, it's been reported that that program that they had to drop the flares was called Snowbird. And the jargon for Snowbird, according to the list of different names that they put down, is referred to as a diversion. That's what Snowbird means. And I don't know if anybody has mentioned that in the program at all. (1:26:17)

Well, I think Dr. Lynn Kitai addressed that. She used that term. You may not have attended her talk. Well, I missed that part. I'm sorry. (1:26:21)


I think I'm correct, but I would direct you to Lynn Kitai. She has done a magnificent job. I suspect that nobody else has investigated the Phoenix Lights in greater breadth and in greater depth than she has. I'm impressed with the work she's done. It took her a while. I think, to be honest with you, I was encouraging her for many years to get her book out because interest was flagging in the Phoenix Lights event, but she did a magnificent job of investigating things like that. (1:26:59)

And I would encourage you to pose that question to her. She's probably in a better position to be able to answer it than I am. Yes? I find it kind of interesting that the formations of these things, whatever they were, very closely match up with the shape of our B-2 stealth bombers that we now know exist. (1:27:18)

Isn't that interesting? Others have commented to the same effect. Do you think the United States government could be guilty of intergalactic patent infringement somehow? That's a very reasonable question. I sort of doubt it. I think any defense attorney would just cite the size of these objects over Phoenix and the size of a B-2 bomber and would say there's no relationship. But that's pure conjecture and half frivolous. (1:27:44)

It's not serious. Well, maybe we just couldn't figure out how to make it that big and we didn't have the amount of materials to make it that big, but we could prototype it smaller and we figured out how to... that looks like a gravity drive to me, the way it obscures and smears the stars. To have a craft that may have been as large as 8.4 miles hovering motionless for five minutes over Sue and her four children, it had to be some kind of technology about which we know nothing. (1:28:14)

One of the things I learned from Sue yesterday from her presentation is when that craft that had hovered over her home started moving to the south, it then accelerated suddenly and I did not know this until she said it yesterday, the wings seemed to fold backwards to make it more streamlined. That's the first I'd ever heard of that. (1:28:40)

That's why I prefaced my presentation today by saying that the more I learn about the Phoenix Lights, the more I'm convinced I don't know very much about it at all. You might have luck looking for pilot reports from that night because every pilot makes a pyrep to the weather station at those airports and at the Air Force bases. (1:28:59)

I was an Air Force meteorologist at McCord Air Force Base back in the 80s and McCord was also a NORAD base. So if they scrambled NORAD, they scrambled them out of McCord as well as out of NORAD Central at the mountain. Well, I'm glad to have that information and I agree with you. The problem is 19 years after the incident and 1,500 miles away from where those reports may reside, it would be very difficult to get that information now, I suspect. (1:29:32)

But that's the type of thing that Jim Delitoso and Dr. Michael Tanner probably addressed back when they were so actively investigating. And I can't emphasize again just how dedicated those two gentlemen were in pursuit of questions, very good questions, the likes of which this young lady just posed. Yes, sir. Next question. He was with Greg Norman and Greg Norman does verify that they were headed down the stairs and Bill Clinton did catch his leg on some kind of railing. (1:30:19)


He did fall and spent about five minutes on top of Greg Norman. This is alleged. Well, Greg Norman has had three surgeries on his knee as well. The other question, but in doing this research, and I wanted to ask you about this, on March 14th, on March 13th, Anthony Lake was the national security advisor to President Clinton. On March 14th, he was replaced by Sandy Berger. I wonder if you were aware of that. (1:31:06)

I was not aware of that. That's an interesting fact. What I would do is investigate in the press and find out whether there had been announcements of that scheduled replacement, changing of the guard, if you will, in the press. That would tell you whether it was something maybe very sudden or whether it had been planned before. (1:31:29)

Okay, thank you very much. And one other point, if you're investigating the Clinton, possible Clinton involvement in the Phoenix Lights, you might go to the Jay Leno program of, it was Thanksgiving of 2001, Thursday night, 2001. Greg Norman was Jay Leno's guest, first guest after the monologue. And that was the first question that Jay Leno asked Greg Norman. He said, the president was at your house and he was injured. (1:31:58)

Of course, Jay Leno did not include the Phoenix Lights event or any kind of alleged involvement. But what Greg Norman said was a little bit different from what the New York Times had recounted in their article. And somebody was getting the story a little bit muddled. What Greg Norman said was the president had a ham sandwich in one hand and a soft drink on the other. (1:32:23)

And the ligaments in his knee apparently just gave way and he collapsed to the ground. But the question I ask is whether the president may have been injured. And I didn't finish the story to my satisfaction, but the question is whether the president might have been being rushed from where he was in Greg Norman's home to a waiting vehicle to race him to a presumably an underground military facility where he could supervise the defense of the United States. My suspicion, and I would love to have some of the Air Force people who know the answer to this question, but my suspicion is the military was panicked that night. (1:33:07)

Imagine having a very highly skilled F-15 pilot tell you that the object he was intercepting was unimaginably large. And you may be able to see five or six other ones on your radar screens at the same time after you've received a report from Nellis Air Force Base and from a retired U.S. Navy admiral telling you the same thing. It's not in the least surprising to me that they might have declared a Defcon 3. Yes, sir. Yeah, Peter, I kind of want to talk about the same thing, the interceptors that were flushed, and whether they were armed, and in your discussions with the airmen, whether there was any conversations with the pilots in the tower as to whether they should shoot. That would be along encrypted communications channels, so civilians would not have access to that radio communication to the best of my knowledge. But I sort of glossed over that issue. I just didn't have time. The lead pilot was a very experienced pilot. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Maryland Air National Guard, as I think I shared with the audience. (1:34:24)


And I presume that you don't fly with the Air Force One and Air Force Two Protection Group unless you're an extremely skilled pilot and highly trusted. And with regard to the arming of those aircraft, one point I glossed over, did not allude to, is the reason I suspect the F-15s were scrambled and not F-16s is because the F-15s were on hot pads. When you're flying for Air Force One and Air Force Two Protection Group, you are probably on standby the whole time you're in uniform, the whole time you're flying for the president. After all, if the president gets a sudden hankering for a Big Mac and he decides to fly from Florida up to who knows where, you have to be ready to go instantly. (1:35:17)

And I presume they run to their aircraft to fire them up and depart and rendezvous with the president's aircraft. So with regard to the arming issue, I didn't address that. Absolutely they're armed. If you're chaperoning the president's aircraft or vice president or any dignitary and you see a bogey on your screen, you use your Lantern 2 pod to reach out optically, identify the aircraft, get an N number, try to determine who is in that aircraft if possible, and so on and so forth. And if you can't do that, if you can't divert that unidentified aircraft away from the president's aircraft, you have to be able to down it instantly or very quickly. So yeah, I suspect they were armed, and that's the reason the commander of Luke Air Force Base scrambled those two jets instead of F-16s that presumably would not have been on hot pads, would not have been fueled and armed and ready to go. F-15 is a better dogfighter and it can go straight up. Yeah, it's a much more powerful heavy fighter. And the nice thing about an F-15, and I presume this is the reason that they flew F-15, the Air Force flew F-15s with the Air Force One and Air Force Two protection group, is it has two engines. So if one fails, you can still continue mission. (1:36:41)

And the Air Force wouldn't be caught dead with a single engine aircraft because the Marines and the Navy fly twin engine fighter jets. The Air Force isn't about to fly a single engine aircraft in proximity, or together with the Air Force and the, or with the Navy and the Marines. Does that answer your question? Good question. Thank you. Yes? This is a question that I had regret several years ago that I did not ask you, Mr. Davenport, when you were on the panel with George Knapp here after the citizen hearing. Oh yes. And I was listening to Coast to Coast at least five or six years ago on a Sunday night when George Knapp was a host and he had a UFO researcher on, I don't remember who it was, but he got a call in from a gentleman who said he had been an officer at NORAD. He was getting older, he was not well, he was on, he was not on duty at NORAD that night, but he was there that night on March 13th of 1997 when they got the call over the blue phone from the Pentagon and it said that the cloaking device of a UFO had gone down and they wanted NORAD to arrange flares, a cover-up, because that UFO had lost its cloaking device. So had you heard that? No I haven't. I don't remember that appearance, I don't remember that caller, but that's not unusual. I handled a lot of material and not all of it sticks permanently, for which I apologize, but I don't remember that. We could go back to the archive and reconstruct that, but I'm not familiar with that report at all. (1:38:25)

Cloaking devices are something I know nothing about, so I can't comment intelligently I feel on it. Well I would think Mr. Knapp would remember that. (1:38:31)

It is the only program I remember doing with George Knapp was on a Sunday night when I talked about the use of passive radar to detect UFOs that I've lectured about here at the McMinnville or McMinnowens Festival. None. Here in Hillsboro, about 2010 roughly, and I had talked about this a couple of years ago. Anyways, I was on my way home and there's a Hillsboro Estuality Hospital over there. It's about five stories high and it was nighttime and there's an airport over there. Anyways, there's this big bright orange orb and I thought maybe it was just a plane coming in. (1:39:57)

Now, I have a master's in aerospace, just a general, so I'm somewhat familiar, you know, with the field. And anyways, long story short, so I get to a stop sign. It's at night. I'm alone in my car. There's a gentleman stopped next to me and this orange light, I thought, oh well, maybe it's a helicopter. Suddenly, this reddish orange orb, it wasn't there anymore and it was this like a triangle. It had three dots. Is there a question? Yeah, oh no, I was going to ask you, I'm sorry, if you think that the orb could be related to... I don't know. Okay, just because I was going to tell you. Have you read the reports on our website yet? I have. (1:40:43)

Have you written down the details of your sighting? And there are many of you were going to say, oh no, not another tirade from Peter on written reports. The only way that information will do any good is not if you talk about it at the McMiniman's UFO Festival, but if you write it down and report it. I appreciate your comment, but to answer it to the best of my ability, if you have not seen the approximately 15,000 reports that I've posted of clusters of red, orange, yellow, amber, and gold lights that have been reported to the National UFO Reporting Center over the last 48 months, I commend them to your attention. That'll give you some idea that may serve to answer your question. But we are getting many, many reports. I talked to Roger Marsh. I'm in frequent contact with people like Jim Clarkson and Roger Marsh, all of MUFON to compare notes, and they're getting the same kind of reports that you describe all the time, just as I am. So yeah, if you have a quick question, I'd be happy to try to answer it. Oh no, I was just asking if you knew a relation with that. No, I had no of no relationship, but I'd love to have that report. The only way that information will do any good, the only way, is not oral, but written down, detailed. Yes, sir. The government is lying to the American people about UFOs, and it's lying through its teeth. That is my position. And I think that, absolutely. And this is altogether inappropriate. Our political system states very clearly that it is we, the American people, who dictate to our political leaders what they should or should not be doing. (1:43:05)

And I think it's altogether inappropriate that they should be lying to us while we pay their high salaries, big salaries. I think the American people are going to have to start attending festivals like this more often. They're not telling us the truth about the financial condition of this country, about all sorts of subjects, and the UFO subject is just one of them. And I don't believe that Hillary Clinton does not know the truth about the UFO phenomenon. After all, when her husband was lying in that hospital bed on the 15th of March 1997, are we to believe that he didn't share with her, if my theory is correct, and I cannot guarantee it is. I cannot believe for a moment that President Clinton did not share with his wife what had happened that caused him to sustain that knee injury, but I cannot prove it. I should send a letter to President Clinton and say, dear Mr. President, would you send me a photo of your surgical scars, please? But that's a little bit awkward. (1:44:15)
