But my first case was from a handful of photographs the local sheriff gave me when I first contacted him in 92, 93, that first week of 93. He said, you know, do we have any cases in Swatch? And I'd already talked with Tom Adams and Tom said there were no official cases in Swatch County, which is where I lived and where Crestone was. And he showed up a couple days later with a handful of photographs. (0:40:55)
And the photograph that I'm showing here is of a bull that was mutilated in the town right out 12 miles from Crestone. So, you know, it was the closest case. So I called up the rancher and said, hey, remember that bull that was mutilated in June 1980? And they said, oh yeah, we do. And I said, well, can I come out and talk to you about it? And so I went out there and interviewed him and they said, yeah, it was weird. (0:41:20)
When we were sitting down for dinner, we heard this helicopter and this, this mash helicopter with no, you know, like with the gas tanks outside. And as it turns out, it was a Bell UH-47. It flew mustard yellow in color. It flew right over their house and, and it seemed to land out in their pasture. (0:41:37)
Well, they didn't think much of it. You know, there's really nothing out there except their cows. And so then 20 minutes later, they heard it fire up and this is right around sunset. And so they ran outside because it was coming back the other way and it went right over their house, 40, 50 feet up. And they got a really good look at it. (0:41:57)
There were no identifying numbers or any sort of logos or anything on it. And so they thought it was weird that it was landed out in our pasture. They went out the next day and they found their bull mutilated. And all the flies that landed on it died, which is weird. (0:42:07)
There's all these dead flies in some of the photographs. Well, I'm sitting here 13 years later, interviewing them about this yellow helicopter. And I go home to type up my notes. The next morning I wake up and I'm having coffee and I'm typing up my notes and I hear this. I look out my window and here comes a UH-47 mustard yellow flew right over my house. (0:42:29)
And I'll tell you, you heard a bear rabbit and a tar baby. I got that tar baby stuck to my face now. I mean, I was hooked. I mean, I just instantly knew that we're dealing with something infinitely more complex than the simple explanation of aliens coming down to gather genetic material to hybridize their dying race. That's why I wrote a book on the trickster. (0:42:54)
And we're going to talk a little bit about that if we have time. Well, I went out to Virginia and I told her this and she freaked out and said, you're kidding me. And I said, I wish I was. I have five other witnesses. And I said, can I go out there and see where the cow was? And she took me out there. (0:43:16)
And 13 years later, there's the cow on its back. You know, it's melted into the ground. So I said, can I have the skull? And she said, sure. Well, here's the only painted mutilated cow skull probably in existence. Whatever. You can see my thinking at the time, you know. Anyway, I painted it yellow, of course. (0:43:34)
