Absolutely. So I interviewed former Ministry of Defense, I guess UFO desk, Nick Pope, as early as the late 90s and then into the early 2000s. And I remember pulling him aside multiple times over 20 years ago and saying, oh, you got this incredible opportunity and an official capacity to investigate UFOs, British government, wow, my gosh, what was the best case? And without a moment's hesitation, Nick said, oh, it was, I think he told me the year but he said Scotland. I don't think he told me at the time it was Calvine, but he said, oh, it was like 1990. And there were two hikers out at late afternoon, early evening, and they came upon a sort of diamond shaped, almost disc diamond shaped craft in the countryside. (1:04:34)
And they happened to have just silently hovering and they happened to have a camera and they shot at least five, if not six prints of this thing with their camera and then points of reference. He says the best photograph of a UFO ever taken ever. And I remember thinking like, where is it? Where's the photograph? He said, well, you know, the ministry of defense kind of killed the story. We actually had one of the prints in a poster size, you know, on one of the walls of the MOD, you know, UFO desk. And I pestered him for decades, you know, on and off saying, you know, where are we going? Well, I don't know. I'm not working there anymore. Eventually, you know, it's not on the wall. (1:05:17)
Nobody threw it away. Nobody would have just thrown that picture away. Somebody must have it, you know. And I remember pressuring him to give me names and whatnot. So I was aware of this case for a long time. And had it not been for the diligent, incredible work of a gentleman named David Clark in England, that photograph would have slipped between the cracks. But thank God to him, he did some research, came upon some formally redacted documents from a FOIA request and came upon a name of someone who was involved in that case. Well, not the name. The name was redacted, but it said former RAF press officer. And then the name was blacked out in Scotland in 1990. So he just looked up who was the press officer in Scotland in 1990 and got the unredacted name. (1:06:09)
Long story short, the guy had kept one print out of the five or six prints that the two witnesses had. And we managed to do a story to cover this case in my new film, The Program. And it was ongoing for the better part of a year because the story keeps developing. But essentially, we got, for the first time ever, not just the print, but we got the RAF press officer, Craig Lindsay, who investigated the case for a brief moment and had the opportunity to talk to the witnesses who took the photograph. They have since vanished. But I don't know how in-depth you want me to get on this case, but essentially, yeah, I can get into it. He was basically doing a preliminary investigation of the case because the two witnesses had intended to publish their story in the local newspaper. (1:07:10)
And the local newspaper reached out to the RAF just to get comment on it. And the RAF said, hey, what do you make of this object these two photographers, you know, the witnesses took? And he said, well, I can't comment on it. I haven't seen it. So the local newspaper sent one print to a large print, I think it was eight and a half by eleven, to this guy, Craig Lindsay. Craig Lindsay was flabbergasted when he saw the photograph and immediately contacted the MOD. He started an investigation. (1:07:50)
He interviewed the witnesses. And then the MOD got one of the prints and they said, thank you so much for your work on this, Mr. Craig Lindsay at the RAF. We'll take over from here. You can cease and desist. The MOD took over. Witnesses vanished. Prints vanished. Story never got published until 34 years later when, again, David Clark found Craig Lindsay, who had kept that print that was given to him in 1990, the original print and the packaging from the local newspaper and then described what the witnesses saw, the photograph. And then very towards the end of production, there was a gentleman who came forward. His name is Richard Grieve. And he's got a brilliant accent. I love the guy. He says, I knew that when I worked with him in the kitchen, I made poached eggs, they made toast. And at first, actually, when I'd heard about it, I said, so you heard about that? (1:08:48)
He said, no, I was a witness. I was there. I said, you were present when that car rolled up. Yes, I was there. I was outside having a cigarette break the early evening. He said it was pissing rain. And this black car rolled up with a driver and two men in suits in the back seat. And they got out in the pissing rain and said, cigarette breaks over, mate. (1:09:17)
And they wanted to talk to the two witnesses. And he said, they're very intimidating. And the other workers, hotel workers, went inside and they looked out through the window as these two men in suits stood with the two witnesses in the pouring rain. It was absolutely coming down cats and dogs. And they stood out there for about five or 10 minutes. (1:09:39)
And then the gentleman got back in the car and off they sped. And when they came back inside, he said, they were white as a ghost. And they were very jarred by what was said to them. And essentially, we'd taken a photograph of a UFO. Now the Americans are after us. They began sleeping in their cars at work, drinking heavily. And then after a couple of weeks, they vanished without a trace. (1:10:02)
And it's been 34 years and they're still gone. If you just look at the photograph, yeah, it's incredible. It looks almost too good to be true. But getting the background story on it is what really makes it truly, I think, one of the best photographic cases in the history of the phenomenon. (1:10:17)
